Basic age pension to reach AZN 50 next year

In Azerbaijan the basic age pension will be doubled to AZN 50 by the end of 2007, and will further be increased to the subsistence level within three years, State Social Defense Foundation chair Salim Muslumov said.

He said that the basic age pension will rise by AZN 5 to AZN 40 from January 1 under a presidential decree, and will hit the subsistence level in 2008.

The change will apply to 1.178 million of 1.186 million pensioners.

"Of 1.186 million pensioners, 7,400 are civil servants and 500 are those of privileged category including parliamentarians and people worked for prosecutor's office, courts, ombudsman's office," he said.

Of 1.178 million pensioners, 23, 254 people receive disability pension benefits, and 55% of the increase will be spent for this category of pensioners.

The increase of basic pensions will be the following format:

Eye disability pensioners (5.825 people) - AZN 10.5

People in status of National Hero Family (31) - AZN 10

Those who underwent political repression and acquitted (2,089) – AZN 5.5

Participants of military operations in Karabakh War, Afghanistan War and other hostilities – AZN 5.5

War veterans receiving age pension benefits – Group I (1,327) AZN 10.5, Group II (2,184) AZN 8.5), Group III (135) AZN 7.5.

Per capita pension is AZN 42.2 at present.

The figure will reach AZN 48.2 after the rise. APA
