Rasizade: "Azerbaijan can help Georgia with gas supply"

25 December 2006 [19:13] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan can help Georgia with the gas supply in the winter in an amount of one million cubic metres a day, Azerbaijani Prime Minister Artur Rasizade said after talks with his Georgian counterpart Zurab Nogaideli on Monday.

He told reporters that a focus of the talks was on Azerbaijan's gas deliveries to Georgia.

Rasizade said that the ministers also discussed the energy exchange between the two trans-Caucasus republics in the winter, the construction of power lines that are to link Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, as well as the participation of Azerbaijani companies in the construction of electric stations in Georgia.

Nogaideli's visit to Azerbaijan is the second over the past month.

At the end of November, the Georgian prime minister held talks in Baku on additional gas deliveries from the Caspian offshore deposit Shah Deniz in 2007.

Georgia is to receive 250 million cubic meters of gas from Shah Deniz next year and 800 million cubic metres if Turkey gives it this amount from its own share from the gas field. Itar-Tass
