Converting to digital systems to be compulsory for TV broadcasters

Communications and Information Technologies Ministry's Teleradio Department is developing a concept in order to ensure conversion of all broadcasters to digital form by 2015, Teleradio Department chief Mikayil Abbasov told APA.

"This will be a law in 2007. The broadcasters have to convert to this system gradually starting from 2007. Of course, it is very difficult for privately-owned TV channels to convert immediately because of financial problems.

"There are three schemes of digital video broadcasts in the world. Azerbaijan prefers DVB-T. The companies should take upon themselves to convert to the digital system in a certain period of time," he said.
