Fares may rise when new buses are brought to Azerbaijan

15 September 2006 [14:36] - TODAY.AZ
The Government of Azerbaijan doesn't plan to raise the price of gasoline in the domestic market, Economic Development Minister-Tariff Council chief Heydar Babayev told a media briefing today.

"The gasoline price has not increased in the domestic market. This issue is not under discussion now. It is not possible and legal to raise gasoline price without decision of the Tariff Council," he said.

He said that Tariff Council will discuss the issue and make a decision, APA reports.

As to the possible increase of bus fares if the gasoline price rises, Mr. Babayev said the license of bus companies will be voided if they raise the fare illegally.

"Tariff Council will discuss the issue. We think that new buses should be brought in roder to improve the transportation service. Fares may be increased when these buses are brought to the city and the transportation service is improved."
