Azerbaijan posts upsurge in foreign trade

Azerbaijan's foreign trade increased by 47.9 percent to $5bn in H1 2006, compared to the same period of 2005. Exports grew by 2.2 times to $2.9bn, while imports gained 0.9 percent rising to $2.1bn, Azerbaijan's State Statistics Committee said.

In January through June Azerbaijan dealt with 123 countries, and the European Union's share of export and import operations amounted to 45.1 percent, that of the CIS 23.5 percent, and of other countries 31.4 percent. Europe accounted for 62,8 percent of the total trade, Asia for 34.2 percent, America for 2.4 percent, Africa for 0.5 percent and Oceania for 0.1 percent.
