Azeri car plant halts assembly of Russian brand

06 July 2006 [11:40] - TODAY.AZ
The automobile plant in Azerbaijan's second largest city, Ganja, has suspended its cooperation with UAZ company on manufacturing SUVs.

According to AssA-Irada, the company explained the move by the fact that the cars the Russian plant produces do not comply with European standards and that it had supplied spare parts of low quality to the Azeri plant.

The Ganja Automobile Plant has lately signed agreements with Chinese Jan-Gan and Lifan Industrial Group companies. The assembly of Jan-Gan cars will begin this August, to be followed by that of the Lifan brand in fall.
