The recently signed intergovernmental agreement on strategic and partnership for “green energy” development and transition between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan reflects the strong bonds of brotherhood, friendship, and strategic partnership among Azerbaijan and Central Asian nations.

Speaking at the Investment Forum on Energy Transition in Central Asia, held during COP29 in Baku, Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov emphasized the significance of this agreement. “This agreement creates a strong foundation for the creation of a ‘green energy’ corridor in the region, the development of integrated electricity markets, and the facilitation of the export of renewable energy to other regions,” he stated.

Shahbazov outlined the project’s next steps, highlighting the agreement between the shareholders of national energy companies and the creation of a joint venture. “The creation of a joint venture will be important stages for the successful implementation of this project. It is assumed that after the establishment of the joint venture, the research work on the integration of the energy systems of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan will be started,” he explained.

The minister also revealed that the consulting firm “Chessie” has been involved in the initiative and expressed optimism about expanding the project’s scope. “The project is not limited to Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. Other countries of Central Asia, especially Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, which have high growth resources, can also join this project through the hydro resources that will be used for the balancing of intermediate renewable energy sources they will add additional value,” he added.

The agreement paves the way for a collaborative green energy future, promising regional integration and a significant boost to renewable energy exports.
