Kazakhstan presented its plans for reducing methane emissions at COP29

Kazakhstan's Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources has provided information about the country's participation in the COP29 climate conference held in Baku, Azernews reports.

The ministry's report states that the Kazakh delegation participated in the summit focused on methane and non-CO2 greenhouse gases.

The delegation was led by Zulfiya Suleimenova, Advisor to the President of Kazakhstan and Special Representative for International Environmental Cooperation, as well as Mansur Oshurbayev, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources.

In her speech, Zulfiya Suleimenova shared Kazakhstan's plans to finalize the development of regulatory acts related to methane emissions.

She explained that the country is working to reduce non-accidental methane emissions and to improve the system for detecting and eliminating leaks in the oil and gas sector.

Suleimenova also mentioned that the development of the National Program for Methane Emissions Reduction is planned to be completed by 2025.

The summit on methane and non-CO2 greenhouse gases was organized by Azerbaijan, the United States, and China on November 12 as part of COP29.
