The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations (UN) Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) marks a critical juncture for enhancing global climate action.
Azernews reports that speaking at the 28th Meeting of the IRENA Council in Abu Dhabi, UAE, General Director of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Francesco La Camera emphasized, “There is an urgent need to invest $31.5 trillion in renewable energy, grid improvements, sustainability measures, and energy efficiency by 2030.” He added that “renewable energy investments should be tripled compared to 2023.”
La Camera also called for COP29 to serve as a platform for consolidating efforts to boost climate finance and advance the global energy transition.
He noted that IRENA has already initiated cooperation with Brazil, the future host of COP30, to build on COP29's achievements in driving toward net-zero emissions and furthering global climate goals.
