Azerphone to launch the first base station before August

The new Azerbaijani mobile operator - Azerphone is currently building the infrastructure to start serving the customers, the Azerbaijani Minister of communication and IT, Ali Abbasov told.

As Trend reports, the first base station will be launched this June-August. "The new operator will provide the customers with the third generation technology. Other operators - Azercell and Bakcell are currently trying to introduce this service too," he said.

Azerphone has received the license of mobile services provision by the decision of the Communication Ministry on December 28, 2005. It was founded by Aztelekom (10%) Siemens (30%) and 2 British companies (60%). The project's major objective – is to provide mobile connection to 85% of the country. $300 million is expected to be invested in the company.
