Ukraine seeks to be active participant in TANAP

16 November 2012 [18:55] - TODAY.AZ
Ukraine considers the countries of the Caspian region as an important partner for diversification of energy sources and realization of joint energy projects, the Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Yuriy Boyko said at the Atlantic Council summit on the energy and economy in Istanbul.

To him, on November 26, Ukraine will begin the construction of LNG-terminal, which will open the state access to the global market for liquefied natural gas, and new opportunities for cooperation in the Black Sea-Caspian region.

‘Ukraine is in talks with partners about possible participation in the TANAP project. And we give convincing arguments, because almost the entire infrastructure, from Turkey to our borders - is ready. Moreover, Ukraine has gas storage facilities on the border with the European Union, and they can be the basis for the future gas pipeline’, said Boyko.

He added that the transportation of Caspian energy resources to the European market through the best routes would serve the stability, economic growth and security in the region.

Note that, the summit has brought together Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey Ali Babajan, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Energy Daniel Poneman, the U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar, Former US National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski, senior officials of the energy ministers of the Caspian region, representatives of the leading oil and gas companies
