Japan to further fund water projects in Azerbaijan

Japan will continue to support water supply and sewerage system reconstruction projects in Azerbaijan.

Azersu (Azerbaijani water operator) organised a meeting with a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency, headed by the Director of the Central Asia and Caucasus Tetsuya Yamada, Azersu told Trend on Thursday.

Azersu chairman Gorkhmaz Huseynov recalled the participation of Japanese companies and the government in investment project and praised the role of the Japan International Cooperation Agency in the reconstruction of water supply and sewerage system.

"As part of a joint with the Japanese agency project "Water supply and sewerage in small towns" work began in Gusar, Khachmaz and Khizi, while tender procedures are nearing completion in Yevlakh, Barda, Gobustan and Naftalan. By the end of 2012 work will begin in these four cities," Huseynov said.

Yamada, in turn, expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation with the Azerbaijani government, and said that his organization will continue to support the projects of reconstruction of water supply and sewerage system.

The meeting also discussed the use of the latest technologies in the project and acceleration of the operations and procedures.

Water supply and sewerage in small towns project funded by the Government of Azerbaijan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency, involves reconstruction of water supply and sewerage services in seven cities and towns of Azerbaijan (Barda, Khachmaz, Yevlakh, Naftalan Khizi, Gusar and Gobustan).
