The two top juniors of the world played a two-game rapid (10' + 3") match in which both 'hopes' won one game each. They then went in for two blitz tie-break games, both of which were drawn. The match was finally decided by an Armageddon-style one-game playoff in which Carlsen with the white pieces and 4 minutes on the clock had to beat Radjabov (black pieces, 3 minutes) to win the match. Carlsen refused a threefold repetition draw in a lost position, and Radjabov soon wrapped up the game and the match 3-2.
