No desertion in Azerbaijani Army in 2006

"Military prosecutor's offices revealed 0.5% more crimes in the first half of 2006 in comparison with the corresponding period of last year," Azerbaijani military prosecutor Khanlar Valiyev told in a large staff meeting on the results of the first half of 2006.

Mr.Valiyev said the number of crimes related to disobedience in the Army as well as violation of regulations on mutual relationships among military men increased in the reporting period. Military prosecutor's offices found out such cases and launched criminal case.

"In the reporting period, the crimes of desertion from regiments decreased 66 facts, crimes on abusing power 46 facts, crimes on irresponsibility 17 facts as well cases on misusing of service guns decreased 3 facts. There was no case of desertion from military units during battle in this period. The number of non-military crimes decreased 25.7 % in comparison with the corresponding period. The crimes related to attempts to suicide or assaulting on others decreased in number in the reporting period as a result of the joint efforts with the Defense Ministry and other military bodies," the military prosecutor said, APA reports.
