Durov went to war on Macron

21 May 2025 [10:10] - TODAY.AZ

The story of Pavel Durov and his confrontation with the French authorities has taken the expected turn.

After the founder of Telegram revealed that representatives of Macron's cabinet had contacted him with a request to influence the elections in Romania, Paris initially denied everything. Later, they reluctantly admitted to their actions—only after Durov named the visitor, the head of French intelligence.

Now, Pavel Durov has announced that he is ready to travel to Romania to testify about the interference of French intelligence in the presidential elections there.

The co-founder of Telegram made this statement on Twitter, reposting a message from Simion, the candidate who lost the election, who appealed to the Constitutional Court to annul the results due to foreign interference.

"I am ready to come and testify if it helps Romanian democracy," Durov wrote.

Whether this will help Romanian democracy is uncertain, but what we do know for sure is that there are more uncomfortable situations in Paris.

Macron thought he could nip the story in the bud, which is why French intelligence was ordered to come clean. They hoped to slow things down.

But Durov, in the best traditions of boyish defiance, has continued pressing the French authorities, step by step, bringing further disgrace to Emmanuel Macron.

Are you done playing, Napoleon?
