Samur-Yalama National Park was established

Samur-Yalama National Park was established in the 11772.45 hectares area of the state forest funds in administrative territory of Khachmaz region, according to the Order of Azerbaijan Republic’s President Mr. Ilham Aliyev, dated November 5, 2012.

The main purpose of Samur-Yalama National Park’s establishment is to preserve the endemic and relict species of plants in the littoral forest areas of the Caspian Sea, as well as the natural areas of salmon and carp fish species of coastal zone, and the important migration routes of migrant birds.

Hence, the number of National Parks in the country became 9 due to the foundation of Samur-Yalama National Park.

At present, specially protected nature zones with the area of 893 thousand hectares are functioning in our country, and this holds 10.3 percent of country’s total territory.
