As part of the Eurovision 2012 Song Contest in Baku, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies launched a digital broadcasting system, Minister of Communications and IT Ali Abbasov told reporters on Monday.

He said the new system will be tested in the coming days in order to prevent various kinds of problems.

"For private companies, opportunities will be created to provide commercial services for the digital broadcasting network," the minister said.

Abbasov said HD-TV and radio will be available by the time of the Eurovision song contest. By the end of the year the country's population will be completely covered by a network of digital TV, he said.

"The Internet is completely ready. Mobile operators have also completed part of their work and the Eurovision website is functioning normally. After that, our main objective is to ensure the sustainability and implementation of measures to prevent possible cyber-attacks," Abbasov said.

"All work in this direction will be implemented in accordance with the planned programme and there will be no problem with telecommunications, radio, TV and the Internet, "Abbasov said.

The 57th Eurovision Song Contest will be held in the Baku Crystal Hall near State Flag Square. The semi-finals will be held in Baku on May 22 and May 24 and the final on May 26. The logo for the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest is 'Fire Flower', while the motto is Light your fire.

Azerbaijan won the right to host the prestigious European song contest after the victory of Eldar Gasimov and Nigar Jamal (Ell / Nikki) at Eurovision 2011 in Dusseldorf, Germany last May.
