A memorial to Azerbaijani repressed women was erected in the settlement of Akmola near Astana, the State Committee on Work with Diaspora said.
The monument was erected on the initiative of "Khazar" cultural center of Astana and the Union of Cultural Centers of Kazakh Azerbaijanis. It was built in the territory of Akmola camp of political repressed people's wives in 1930-1940s.
There were 49 women from Azerbaijan in this camp in 1936 - 1945. Most of them were buried in a common grave.
