Azerbaijan’s international grandmasters Vugar Gashimov (2757) and Shakhriyar Mammadyarov (2733) take part in the SportAccord World Mind Games 2011, which kicked off on Friday in Beijing.
The game between two famous players – the Azerbaijani Shahriyar Mammadyarov and Sergey Karyakin from Russia was probably the most dramatic and entertaining in the round 2. Everything finished happy for Mammadyarov, who became 1 of the leaders of the rapid tournament and scored 2 points. Vugar Gashimov scored 1 point.
The Azerbaijani grandmasters will compete in the male category against 14 rivals. SportAccord World Mind Games is a unique multi-sports event which highlights the great value of Mind Sports. This first edition includes five sports: Bridge, Chess, Draughts, Go and Xiangqi. Total prize cash will be 1 million U.S. dollars. The event attracts 32 contestants in every sport. Starting on 9 December, the live coverage of the event will be available on YouTube.
