Azerbaijani taekwondo fighters win 17 medals in Austria

Young Azerbaijani taekwondo fighters have brought home a clutch of 17 medals, including two golds from Austrian Open 2017 held in Innsbruck.

The gold medals came from Mahammad Alizade (48kg) and Yashar Mammadli (45kg), Azertac reported.

Azerbaijani fighters also grabbed four silver and eleven bronze medals.

Azerbaijan’s squad included 38 fighters. 

Taekwondo is one of the most popular sports in Azerbaijan. The National Taekwondo Federation has trained many prominent athletes since its founding in 1992. Many of those athletes now enjoy international recognition.

The Federation’s training facility houses new, state-of-the-art training equipment and has a proud history of bringing up more than 500 black belt recipients and athletes.
