Day 1 results at 'Shamkir Chess2016' super tournament

The Shamkir Chess 2016, the 3rd edition of the tournament in memory of Vugar Gashimov, who succumbed to ill health in early 2014, kicked off on May 25.

The first games of the tournament were held on May 26.

Azerbaijani grandmaster Shahriyar Mammadyarov has drawn with Russian Sergey Karyagin with 0.5 points in the first round of the Shamkir Chess Tournament, Azertac reports.

The day`s other results were as follows: Rauf Mammadov 0.5-0.5 Anish Giri, Teymur Rajabov 0.5 – 0.5 Hou Yifan, Eltaj Safarli 0.5 – 0.5 Pavel Elyanov, FabianoKaruan 0.5 – 0.5 Pentala Harikrishina.

The second round of the tournament will be held on May 27.

The third memorial tournament brings together world-famous chess grandmasters, including challenger for the world chess crown Sergey Karjakin, Fabiano Caruana, Anish Giri, Paul Elyanov, Pentala Harikrishna, Hou Yifan as well as national grandmasters Shahriyar Mammadyarov, Teymur Rajabov and Eltaj Safarli and Rauf Mammadov.

Notably, winner of 'Shamkir Chess' circular system super tournament will be identified on June 4 as a result of 9-turn fight.
