The 9th June, 2013 will be remembered by all tennis fans as the day Rafael Nadal became the first man to win the same Grand Slam tournament for the eighth time. The Spaniard clinched the French Open once again after conceding just eight games - a fitting number for the occasion - against compatriot and good friend David Ferrer.
There is definitely something about Rafa and Roland Garros. It is his favourite tournament, where he feels most at home and has extra confidence. It is the place where he rises to the occasion, feeling he is a notch above his opponents, which is down to his past results and not egotistical reasons, which can prove to be important, especially against the inexperienced David Ferrer, who was in his first Grand Slam final.
The all-Spanish final was won by the Majorcan 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 in a match which lasted two hours and seventeen minutes, on the Philippe Chatrier court, whose crowd worshipped Nadal's historic feat.
Nadal now has twelve Grand Slam titles to his name. It is also the 57th title of his career, his 42nd on clay and seventh of the season. He has won seven titles and reached nine finals since his return to action after seven months out injured.
