
Baku-2020 Bid delegation departs for Lausanne to submit the Applicant File, Baku 2020 Bid CEO Ms. Konul Nurullayeva said at a press briefing today.
Baku 2020 delegation led by the Bid CEO, the Minister of Youth and Sport of Azerbaijan as well as the Vice-Chairman of National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan together with famous Azerbaijani Olympic and Paralympic Athletes will arrive to the headquarters of IOC on 14 February to submit the Applicant File, the Organizing committee’s statement reads.
Talking to the media during the press-briefing Ms.Nurullayeva said: “I am very delighted to announce that we have completed the preparations of the Bid Book and ready to submit it. It was prepared by a team of local and international experts to very high standards and I would like to thank everybody for their valuable contributions.”
“We have outlined in details how Baku plans to build future Olympic infrastructure. In the book we show the existing sports, transport, tourism and other relevant facilities that are up to world standards, as well as the future infrastructure that will enable us to host one of the Best Games in the history of Olympic Movement” – stated, the Bid CEO.Ms.Nurullayeva also stressed the nationwide support for Baku 2020 Bid. “We are also extremely happy that Azerbaijani public and the government stand fully behind our bid. With 95% people supporting the bid as a result of the recent poll, we believe together we can get the honour of hosting one of the greatest sporting events,” she said.
Azerbaijani Paralympic Gold winner in Judo Ilham Zakiyev, one of the Athletes joining the delegation, expressed his hope that IOC will recognize Azerbaijan’s unanimous support and desire to Host the Games in Baku. “We have great sporting potential and really wish to realize this potential if we are granted an honour to Host the Games in 2020. We have very young population and millions of young girls and boys are ready to join the Olympic Movement and spread Olympic values across the region,” Zakiyev said.
It was also mentioned during the press-briefing that Baku has just got confirmation of International Gymnastics Federation to host 2014 European CUP in Rhythmic Gymnastics.This news came just after the FILA announced two Azerbaijani athletes Sharif Sharifov and Mariya Stadnik the ‘Best Wrestlers of 2011’.
