Azerbaijan will mull bill on defamation

The bill on "Protection from defamation" may be discussed at the spring session of the Azerbaijani Parliament, Press Council Chairman Aflatun Amashev said. The Press Council has fulfilled its mission in this sphere," he said. "The bill is ready and improved by well-known European experts. The Press Council has submitted this bill to the Azerbaijani Parliament."

Amashev said that this issue may be discussed at the spring session in 2012. The law on "Protection from defamation" includes the release of journalists from criminal responsibility for insult and slander.
