The snowy weather in Azerbaijan created problems for traffic movement. Traffic movement hampered on the Baku-Shamakhi, Ismayilli-Mughanli and Baku-Guba highways and Agsu pass, Azerbaijani Interior Ministry’s Central State Traffic Police Department spokesman Kamran Aliyev reported.
"Much snow has fell on the pass, making it difficult for the movement of vehicles. Despite this, these highways were not closed," Aliyev said. He advised the drivers and road users to be careful on the roads, given the adverse weather conditions, and use winter wheels.
The Baku-Sumgayit higway was also closed yesterday in the evening due to a traffic jam, Aliyev said. "There were many vehicles on this road and inexperienced drivers were driving at low speed, and this caused the traffic jam there," he said adding that the traffic movement is normal there now.
Earlier, it was reported that Baku-Shamakhi was closed and some 15 vehicles were stuck on the section from Baku to Agsu pass yesterday. Currently, the road sprinkled with salt, sand and heavy machinery involved in the process.
Snow also hampered traffic movement on the Mughanli-Ismayilli highway. Since the Baku-Shamakhi-Agsu highway was closed to traffic, drivers used alternative routes - Baku-Gazakh Ujar-Goychay, Agdash-Gabala and Kurdamir-Agsu.
