
Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder of the
International Dialogue for Environmental Action (IDEA) global initiative
Leyla Aliyeva has today visited the Thalassemia Center in Azerbaijan`s
capital.
Azerbaijan`s Health Minister Ogtay Shiraliyev informed
Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva about the activity of the Center. The Minister said
the center was constructed as part of the Heydar Aliyev
Foundation-initiated “For Life without Thalassemia” Program.
Shiraliyev
stressed that the Center serves about 30-40 patients a day. The
Minister pointed out there are approximately 1000 people living in
Azerbaijan with thalassemia and 60 percent of them are under permanent
control.

Aliyeva toured the transfusion hall, clinic, lab, reanimation, the
molecular diagnostics lab and sterilization room. Leyla Aliyeva watched a
video about patients with thalassemia in Azerbaijan.
Leyla
Aliyeva also visited a canteen of the facility. The Heydar Aliyev
Foundation presented keepsake to children who are being treated in the
Center.

Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva visited the Center of Surgery and Transplantology of Organs after its overhaul initiated by the Foundation.
Head doctor of the Central Oilmen Hospital Habib Yuzbashiyev told Leyla Aliyeva that the center provided with sophisticated medical equipment is second to none in Caucasus and Central Asia. With the Foundation`s support, about 3,000 patients have been examined here and 450 underwent open-heart surgery.
Leyla Aliyeva met with patients and was curious about their health. Leyla Aliyeva was briefed on the CUSA Excel equipment donated by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation met with medical personnel of the center and group of patients who had been treated here. They expressed gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva for the care and attention for healthcare development in the country and creation of such the center.
