Azerbaijan to host 1st meeting of National Committees of International Press Institute

The 1st meeting of the chairmen of the National Committees of the International Press Institute (IPI) will be held in Baku on November 3-4, APA reports. Chairman of IPI’s Azerbaijan National Committee Umud Rahimoglu said Director of the IPI Alison McKenzie, representative of IPI Christiane Klint, chairmen of National Committees of Germany, Norway, Slovenia, Turkey, India will attend the meeting.

He said the development platform of the National Committees will be discussed during the two-day meeting. Roundtables on the themes “The role of the National Committees in improving the Regional Cooperation Strategy”, “Moving forward – National Committees as means to strengthen the network”, “The role of the National Committees in the freedom of press” will be held during the meeting.

“The meeting of the chairmen of the National Committees of the International Press Institute will be the first in the history of the institute. Actually, the idea was put forward at the annual meetings of the Press Institute. There is a need to meet and hold discussions for the more efficient activity of the National Committees of the International Press Institute. It is very important to increase the efficiency of the relations and share experience in the globalizing world. Therefore, the Baku meeting of the National Committees is very important,” he said.

Umud Rahimoglu said there is a great need to increase the role of the National Committees in the development of freedom of expression. Baku declaration will be adopted at the meeting.
