Azerbaijan tightens punishment for production, import, sale and distribution of religious literature, things and other materials

It is proposed to tighten punishments applied in Azerbaijan for the illegal production, import, sale and distribution of religious literature, things and other materials of religious content.

The draft amendments on it in the Criminal code were submitted for discussion at the joint meeting of the Parliament’s committees on Human Rights, Legal Policy and State-building. According to the draft, it was determined to punish a person for production, import, sale and distribution of religious literature, things and the other materials of religious content with pecuniary penalty in amount of AZN 5000-7000 or sentence to 2-year imprisonment.

If the same acts are committed jointly by a group of persons, an organized group or if the official permitted it by abusing his post, he will be fined in amount of AZN 7000-9000 or sentenced to 2-5 years of imprisonment.
