Sale of fruits and vegetables starts in schools in Azerbaijan’s capital

Sale of fruits and vegetables has started in Baku schools, director of public affairs sector of Baku Education Department Zamina Aligizi said.

She said Baku Education Ministry put forward an initiative on sale of fruits and vegetables in the school canteens several years ago. “In the initial stage the society was not so ready for this. We did not want to insist. Actually, the sale of fruits and vegetables in schools has no direct relation with Baku Education Department. We simply do this for healthy nutrition of children,” she said.

Zamina Aligizi said the school canteens are not subordinated to the department. “We held talks with “Mektebli” enterprise, this enterprise realizes the sale of fruits and vegetables in schools. Children want to buy fruit. The prices are acceptable,” she said.
