WHO withdraws Azerbaijan from list of countries with wide spread of tuberculosis

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced its next report on spread of tuberculosis.

The WHO came to a conclusion that the number of people who got TB and died from this disease has decreased over the last 10 years. According to reports, if 1.8 mln people died in 2008 from TB, in 2010 this number decreased to 1.4 mln.

The part of the reports related to Azerbaijan says that estimated proportion of TB cases that have multi-drug-resistant TB was 22% in comparison with the past years. Sometimes the medicines used for curing were not giving effect sometimes, 56% of people had to cure themselves once again. According to the report 1700 were the carriers of TB in Azerbaijan last year. The country increased allocations for the prevention of this disease.

The cases of HIV-carriers’ infection with tuberculosis are also low in Azerbaijan don’t exceed 4%.

Earlier Azerbaijan was included in the list of countries which had series TB problems, but this time Azerbaijan was withdrawn from the list of 22 countries, where the TB widely spreads. According to WHO, the most serious situation in this sphere is in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Kenya and Thailand.
