It is needed to conduct large research work for the purpose of determining the truthfulness of thoughts on existence of 9-10-magnitude earthquake focuses in Azerbaijan, Director of Institute of Geology of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences, Academician Akif Alizadeh told journalists.
The academician said that there was a new methodic approach on determination of earthquake focuses: “According to new approach, there are 9-10-magnitude focuses in Azerbaijan. The discussions must be held on this methodic approach. We proposed to research them jointly with Russian and Georgian seismologists”.
He said that it was needed to develop new seismic maps of Azerbaijan: “We have repeatedly raised an issue on it, there is no reaction yet. The Caspian Sea is a seismic zone. We repeatedly proposed to conduct monitoring in the oil wells in the Caspian Sea, and to set seismographs in every platform”.
