“Kalashnikov” assault rifle is “dying”, but Azerbaijan still needs it…

01 October 2011 [12:20] - TODAY.AZ
It seems like one of the most famous assault rifles in the world is not really in favor in Russian army anymore, according to Le Monde newspaper.

Le Monde claims, referring to the official statement of the Defense Ministry, that the Russian Army does not need the legendary weapon anymore, and the “Izhmash” factory, which has been producing the weapons has been ordered to stop the production.

Another thing here, that should be mentioned is that the available “AK47″ amount is 5 times more than the Russian Army actually needs. Besides, the legendary weapon no longer meets today’s requirements.

“Izhmash” once the former jewel of the Soviet defense industry, turned out to be in poor condition due to poor management. Aside from that, reportedly, most of the “Kalashnikov” rifles used in hot spots all over the world are counterfeit.

“Russia, concerned about its status as a military power, came up with an ambitious plan of modernization and retooling the Army: 474 billion euros will be allocated until 2020. But where to start? Outdated industrial infrastructure, skilled staff is not enough, innovations are made slowly, ” – says correspondent Marie Zhego.

However, at this point, its not that bad for the AK 47. According to chairman of the All-Russian Trade Union of the Defense Industry Gregory Black “there are still loyal customers”, who rely on this weapon, and still purchase it. Such countries are Venezuela and Azerbaijan.

Whatever it is, this is kept silent, so that the “father” of the assault rifle, the 91-year old Mikhail Kalashnikov wouldn’t know, as this just might be too tough for him to handle.
