Azerbaijan hardens punishments for illegal lotteries and sweepstakes

The amount of fines for organizing illegal lotteries and sweepstakes by non-legal entities was determined in Azerbaijan.

The amendments were made to the Code of Administrative Offences and Criminal Code on it.

According to the amendment made to the Code of Administrative Offences, for organizing illegal lotteries and sweepstakes by non-legal entities, the organizer will pay a fine in amount of AZN 1500-2000.

The amount of fine for participation in gambling was increased by the other amendment to the code. The participators in the gambling games will be fined in amount of AZN 400-600 (this amount was AZN 15-20) with confiscation of game accessories, as well as money, things and other values.

This amendment doesn’t concern the lotteries and sweepstakes organized legally.

The annexes and amendments were made to the Criminal Code. According to these amendments, multiple organizing lotteries and sweepstakes will be punished with threefold amount of damages or 1-5 years of imprisonment.

Gambling owners will be punished with two years of correctional work or three years of imprisonment. An organized group charged with the gambling will be punished with 3-6 years of imprisonment.
