Some 2000 Somalian families receive aid from Azerbaijan - PHOTOS

As many as 2,000 Somali families in the Somali refugee camps, located on the border with Kenya and  who fled their homes because of famine, have received a month's supply package of products purchased through the money raised in Azerbaijan as part the "Aid to Somalia" campaign, 1news.az reported.

According to Eurasian Youth Center of Youth Forum of the Organization of Islamic Conference, the campaign was held by representatives of the Youth Forum together with other international humanitarian organizations. The product package is designed for use within one month for a Somali family consisting of five persons. The process of delivery of products to Somali families began after the Ramadan holiday and was fully completed a few days ago. Representatives of the OIC YF Istanbul office have returned from Somalia recently.

Although the problem of starvation and famine among Somalis is partially solved due to international donor food supplies, the conditions of Somali people in the camps are rather depressing. This is primarily about ongoing problem of lack of sufficient amounts of food and especially water-borne diseases due to lack of medicines, absolute lack of social conditions, etc.

The OIC Youth Forum launched international humanitarian campaign to help Somalis suffering from famine in Azerbaijan in the holy month of Ramadan.

The campaign aimed to combine efforts of those willing to help Somalia in Azerbaijan, to ensure a centralized and transparent system of fund-raising and deliver the funds raised to needy people in Somalia. More than $72,000 were raised as part of the charity campaign "Aid to Somalia" within 10 working days in Azerbaijan in the month of Ramadan.
