
UNICEF and the World Health Organization publicized annual report on child mortality in the world.
The UN’s website reported that the level of the child mortality has decreased for the first time during the last years. The report covers children till age 5, infants (2-3 years) and neonates. The number of under-five deaths world-wide has declined from more than 12 mln in 1990 to 7.6 mln in 2010.
According to the reports, child mortality rate in Azerbaijan decreased. 40-99 deaths per 1000 live births were in Azerbaijan. The report says if under-five mortality rate was 93 deaths per 1000 live births, in 2010 it declined to 46.
The mortality rate among children aged 2-3 years declined from 74 to 39. Neonatal mortality fell from 31 to 19 cases. According to the UNICEF and WHO a The decrease of child mortality is related to the improvement of health services and the spread of immunization.
