27 maternal deaths recorded in Azerbaijan this year

“Each maternal death is seriously investigated in Azerbaijan and positive results have been recently produced in this field.

These results can be compared with a number of the European countries, Deputy Health Minister Elsevar Agayev told journalists. Deputy Minister said the number of maternal and infant deaths reduced in Azerbaijan.

“Sometimes doctor’s mistake causes maternal death. In such cases the measures of punishment are different. The worst punishment for a doctor is the suspension from work, change of the work place, reprimand, administrative punishment measures,” he said.

Elsevar Agayev said the number of maternal death is approximately 15 per 100 000 child births.
“27 maternal deaths have been recorded this year. This is not a big figure for the republic. But anyway we are concerned about it and measures are being taken to reduce it,” he said.
