2 617 815 sq m area cleared of mines and unexploded ordnances in Azerbaijan last month

2 617 815 sq m area was cleared of mines and unexploded ordnances (UXO) in Azerbaijan in August this year, press service of Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) said.

681 UXOs, 7 antitank mines and 6 antipersonnel mine were disarmed.

480 specialists and 120 assistants, 6 mine clearing vehicle and 32 mine dogs participated in the operations.

169 646 894 sq m area of Azerbaijan has been cleared of mines and UXOs by ANAMA up to now. 663 147 mines and UXOs have been disarmed.

The agency is carrying out mine clearing operations in Aghdam, Aghstafa, Aghjabadi, Fuzuli, Goranboy, Terter, Ganja, as well as territory of Absheron district Kirdaq Mud Volcanoes, at the same time in Guzdek settlement of Garadagh district of Baku.

In addition, within the Mine Risk Education (MRE) program, 15000 pupil manual and teacher allowances were printed this year. These manuals will be distributed to the regional education departments covered by the MRE program.
