Pardon not expected in Azerbaijan on occasion of Ramadan

24 August 2011 [08:30] - TODAY.AZ
The Pardon Commission of Azerbaijan will not appeal to the President with a request on pardon on the occasion of Ramadan, MP Elmira Akhundova said.

She said now applications are considered, and there is not a sufficient number of requests to hold a meeting of the Commission.

"I receive one to two requests per day. At the meetings, I give advice to people and explain what documents are necessary to be submitted. This is done by me and other members of the Commission throughout the year," said Akhundova.

Pardon is not expected on the occasion of Ramadan, she said. "Now there are not many applications for pardon, and the next pardon can be declared only in the autumn," she said.
According to Akhundova, only the President is authorized to issue orders for pardon, and also can give order on pardon in private.

Last pardon order was signed on May 26.
