Human Rights Commissioner of Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova informed the participants about the important work done in Azerbaijan toward coordinating the laws with the international standards.
Head of the EU Office in Azerbaijan, Ambassador Roland Kobia said Azerbaijan undertook certain commitments before the Council of Europe, when it became its member. “The work to be done in the field of human rights is a part of these commitments. The human rights shouldn’t be considered as the European value. This right has been given to the human since his or her birth. “Arabian spring” also showed that the human rights are one of the highest, supreme values”.
Kobia said Azerbaijan’s commitments in the field of human rights were described in the country’s legislation. The EU representative added that Azerbaijan should prosper not only physically, but socially as well.
Kobia said EU gives a serious importance to cooperation with Azerbaijan.
