ANAMA to conduct mine and UXO clearance operations in the territories of mud volcanoes

The Azerbaijani National Agency for Mine Actions will start the mine and UXO clearance operations near Baku in one more territory in fall, Director General of ANAMA Nazim Ismayilov said.

Ismayilov said that the clearance operations will be started in October in the big territory of mud volcanoes situated in Garadagh district on the basis of appeal of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources: “A lot of UXOs, including missiles and etc. were detected in these territories during the researches. Once that territory was military reservation”.

The operations in the territory of mud volcanoes will continue for 6-8 months.

Saying that the work on clearance of unexploded ammunition warehouse belonging to the soviet army was conducted in Guzdak settlement of Garadagh district near Baku, the ANAMA head noted that there were territories of unexploded air bombs near military airdrome Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev settlement of Sumgayit city.

As regards to the clearance of mine and ammunitions in Zira (Nargin) island, ANAMA head said that no appeal was entered to ANAMA: “There is an ammunition warehouse. But this island is on the balance of the Defense Ministry. Nobody appealed to us”.
