
165 kg of drugs were detained by Azerbaijan’s customs organs in the first half-year of 2011, Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee Asgar Abdullayev said.
To him, compared to a year ago, the situation in this sphere remained unchanged – 171 kg of drugs were detained last year. Instead, this year, facts on drug trafficking and number of persons detained connected with it rose in comparison with 2010:
“For example, though, 47 persons were detained for illegal drug trafficking last year, this number became 66 in 2011, 54 of them are men, 12 – women”. Abdullayev said that the role of women in drug trafficking rose: “Though only 3 women were detained for this activity, this year 12 women were detained”.
Besides, facts on drug transportation in different parts of human body: “22 facts on transportation via internal organs were recorded this year, whereas, only 1 fact was recorded last year”. The drug transported via Azerbaijan from Iran is taken to especially to Russia and other countries.
