ICRC employees visit Azerbaijani POW in Armenia

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) staff visited Azerbaijani POW Roman Huseynov in Armenia. The ICRC employees assessed the conditions under which Huseynov is kept, and his state of health, the ICRC Baku Office told Trend.

The ICRC employees handed over his family’s letter to Huseynov and Huseynov’s letter to his family was sent to Azerbaijan.

The Armenian armed forces captured Azerbaijani army sergeant Roman Huseynov on Aug. 27, 2010.

Azerbaijan transferred Armenian citizen Arthur Badalian to Armenia in the Agdam region on March 17. In turn, soldier Anar Hajiyev was transferred to the Azerbaijani side. Previously, Azerbaijan transferred three Armenian soldiers to the third party at their request.

There are three Armenian POWs and five members of one family in Azerbaijan.
Working under the Geneva Conventions, the ICRC has been operating in the region since 1992, in connection with the Nagorny Karabakh conflict.
