Azerbaijani National Security Ministry withdraws drugs from illegal trade turnover

As a result of the measures taken by the Ministry of National Security over 565 kg drugs were removed from illicit turnover, 20 criminal cases launched, 75 people made accountable within the six months of 2011, Public Affairs Center of the Ministry said.

20 people engaged in smuggling drugs en route Iran–Azerbaijan–Russia, Iran–Azerbaijan–Russia–Ukraine and Iran–Azerbaijan–Turkey–Ukraine were exposed in the past month, over 183 kg drugs were seized. Effective cooperation of the Ministry of National Security with the relevant agencies of the foreign countries must be especially noted in the successfulness of the operations to combat transnational trafficking of drugs.

As a result of the joint operations carried out by the Ministry of National Security, Federal Drug Control Service of Russia, special service agencies of Turkey and Ukraine, organized criminal gang smuggling a great deal of drugs en route Iran–Turkey– Ukraine for a long time was rendered harmless.

Some members of the gang were detained in Odessa, Ukraine, 11 kg 500 g hashish were seized.

As a result of the operations carried out by the Ministry of National Security, Federal Drug Control Service of Russia and Ukraine’s Security Service, Azerbaijani citizens Bagirov Fuzuli Gazanfar, Bagirov Firdovsi Gazanfar, Mammadov Jabir Kheyrulla, Guliyev Vugar Muzefferovich, citizens of Ukraine Pashazadeh Rovshan Hasanaga and Kuptsova D. I. smuggling drugs en route Iran–Azerbaijan-Russia-Ukraine were detained in Kiev, 10 kg 821 g opium were seized.

Criminal cases have been launched regarding all facts, measures are being taken to expose other participants of the offences.
