US-financed two laboratories monitoring animal diseases inaugurated in Azerbaijan

US Defense Threat Reduction Agency inaugurated two laboratories monitoring animal diseases in Imishli and Sabirabad regions of Azerbaijan.

Addressing the opening ceremony of both laboratories chief of State Veterinary Service under Agriculture Ministry Siyala Rustamova said more than $2 million had been spent on the construction of the laboratories, it had been financed by the US government through Cooperative Biological Engagement Program. Rustamova noted that 10-15 people would work in each of the laboratories. He said the facilities had been provided with modern diagnostic devices.

Executive director of Defense Threat Reduction Agency Ronnie Faircloth said the laboratories would make it available to fight against dangerous viruses in Azerbaijan. “Our aim is to fight against dangerous pathogens,” he said.

Representatives of Imishli and Sabirabad executive authorities underlined the importance of the laboratories.

Eight more laboratories will be opened in Azerbaijan. Each laboratory will cover five regions.
