Baku will host the presentation dedicated to the end of “Saloglu UXO clearance project”, which is one of the biggest conversion projects supported by NATO, the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) said.

The representatives of Azerbaijan’s various governmental institutions, representatives of embassies accredited in Baku as well as international organizations will participate in the event, which will be held on July 8.

The participation of high ranking officials of NATO and NATO’s Maintenance and Supply Agency (NAMSA) is expected at the meeting. Heretofore, on July 5, the certificate on clearance of former military base’s territory will be presented to the local executive power in Saloglu village.

Saloglu was the Soviet largest armory in the South Caucasus. In August, 1991, the Russian forces exploded the ammunitions for 4 days and destroyed 138 armament depots in the area.

The UXO Clearance project supported by NATO/NAMSA started in December 2005. About 600 000 UXOs were found and neutralized in Saloglu villages from December 2005 till present.
