
Azerbaijan’s Press Council appealed to the Interior Ministry concerning American journalist Amanda Ericsson and human rights defender from the UK Silvia Davis, who underwent physical assault by unidentified persons.
Press Council said that they condemned and expressed concern over the physical assault of American journalist Amanda Ericsson and human rights defender from the UK Silvia Davis in Baku on June 15.
According to the appeal, Ericsson and Davis are cooperating with the local nongovernmental organizations, hold trainings for journalists and civil society activists in Azerbaijan. Ericsson is also collaborating with the Washington Post and New York Times.
“The Press Council condemns fact of pressure on both persons, regards it as an action aiming to create negative opinion about our country.”
The Press Council underlined the importance of finding the assaulters and bringing them to account.
US citizen Amanda Ericsson and UK citizen Silvia Davis underwent physical assault by unidentified persons in Yasamal district of Baku on June 15.
Amanda Ericsson appealed to the police office saying that they had undergone physical assault. The fact is being investigated.
