Bakcell CEO met with National Book Award winners

Bakcell, the first mobile operator in Azerbaijan, was pleased to give support to the National Book Award (NBA), known as the major cultural event of the year. Last week, June 4, the winners of the project were announced: Parviz Jabrayilov - 1st place winner, Magsad Nur - 2nd place winner, Nariman Abdurrahmanli and Natiq Rasulzade - 3rd place winners, Kamran Nazirli - for the best translation of American literature from English to Azerbaijani. The winner of the first award received 3,000 AZN, the second place - 2,000 AZN and the third place winners - each 1,000 AZN. 1000 AZN was awarded to Kamran Nazirli by the US Embassy in Azerbaijan for his translation.

In the meeting with the winners at Bakcell Head office, Mr. Richard Shearer, CEO of Bakcell congratulated them on their success and wished them good luck to continue creating more works for the Azerbaijani literature: "Bakcell, as an Azerbaijani company believes it is an important mission of its corporate social responsibility programme to support the development of the arts and Azerbaijani culture. The National Book Award is one of most prominent initiatives in this regard and we are very pleased to support this project."

Nigar Kocharli, NBA founder extended her thanks to Bakcell for the support to such an important cultural project: "The Award is aimed at drawing public attention to Azerbaijani literature, enhancement of social value of modern literature and the culture of reading, as well as promotion of works of talented writers to contribute to the enrichment of our literature. I must commend Bakcell CSR team for their excellent cooperation during the project implementation. We worked like a team. I can say our targets have been fully reached."

Note that with support of Bakcell, the works of the National Book Award winners will be published both as paper and e-books and introduced to Azerbaijani readers in Azerbaijan and abroad.

"Bakcell is committed to promoting Azerbaijani literature and we want to make it accessible to all, including those living abroad. Today with increasing popularity of internet education, e-books are growing in popularity. Not many books are available though for e-book readers in Azerbaijani and it is our next CSR target to help develop digital infrastructure of Azerbaijani literature. I am pleased to announce that for the first time in Azerbaijan "Ali and Nino" Publishing House and Bakcell will launch National E-book Award", said Richard Shearer.
