
Azerbaijani nurse Vafa Amirova has received her Florence Nightingale Medal which she was awarded by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The medal recognizes exceptional courage and devotion to victims of armed conflict or natural disaster. It also recognizes exemplary service or a pioneering spirit in areas of public health or nursing education.
Amirova became one of thirty-nine nurses from 19 countries to be awarded the Florence Nightingale Medal this year. The winners were nominated by their respective National Red Cross Red Crescent Society and selected by a commission comprised of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the International Council of Nurses.
Amirova, a volunteer nurse of Nizami district Committee of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society, received her medal in a ceremony organized by the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society and ICRC Office in Baku.
