Peace Corps Director to visit Azerbaijan and Georgia

Peace Corps regional director Helen Lowman, who will meet with U.S. Corps volunteers and officials, will visit Georgia and Azerbaijan on June 9-14.

Lowman's visit is primarily associated with the Peace Corps’ role in supporting the development of education and nonprofit sector, the U.S. Embassy in Georgia told Trend. Her visit is associated with the 50th anniversary of the Peace Corps and the 10th anniversary of the organization in Georgia, where at present about 100 American volunteers work.

Lowman represents the Peace Corps in Europe, the Mediterranean and Asia and works in Washington. The Peace Corps is a U.S. program for volunteers, led by the U.S. government.

The Peace Corps mission has three main goals: to provide technical assistance to interested countries, support for different peoples to get better acquainted with American culture and introduce the culture of other countries to Americans. To date, more than 200,000 Americans have served in the Peace Corps as volunteers in 139 countries.
