02 June 2011 [16:30] - TODAY.AZ
An estimated 2,500 youth are newly infected with HIV every day, says the report entitled "Opportunity in Crisis: Preventing HIV from early adolescence to young adulthood".

The report is prepared by UN Children’s Fund, the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS, UNESCO, International Labor Organization, World Health organization and the World Bank.

"Opportunity in Crisis: Preventing HIV from early adolescence to young adulthood" presents, for the first time, data on HIV infections among young people and identifies factors that increase risk of infection as well as opportunities to strengthen prevention.

According to the report, people between the ages of 15 and 24 accounted for 41 per cent of new infections among adults in 2009. Worldwide, an estimated 5 million (4.3 million to 5.9 million) young people in that age group were living with HIV in 2009.

According to report of 2009, 2264 virus carriers were found in Azerbaijan to these days. Azerbaijan is included to "L" group in the report.
